July 17, 2008 - We have added an update on the 2008 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting in Philadelphia. We have also added an update on biofilm and mycobacteria as a cause of sinusitis.

May 6, 2008 - We have added an update on the 2008 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting in Philadelphia.

March 27, 2008 - Dr. Tichenor and his nurse, Jennifer Walsh presented a paper on atypical mycobacteria as a cause of chronic sinusitis at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma,and Immunology meeting recently. Ms. Walsh was interviewed by WABC news as a result of the paper. Dr. Tichenor's Task Force Report on endoscopic evaluation of patients with sinusitis (both before and after surgery) was published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in April, 2008. It is also available at the AAAAI website. You may want to give your doctor a copy.

April 14, 2007 - Dr. Tichenor recently completed a paper on endoscopic evaluation of patients with sinusitis (both before and after surgery. It is available at http://www.aaaai.org/media/resources/academy_statements/practice_papers/endoscopy.pdf. You may want to give your doctor a copy.

Dr. Tichenor teaches a course on endoscopy in patients who have previously had sinus surgery at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology each year. The next course will be in March, 2008.

The study on Amphotericin B has begun. You can get information at the Accentia website.

January 1, 2007 - A study will begin shortly which will hopefully lead to the approval by the FDA of the first treatment for chronic sinusitis. This involves a new formulation of Amphotericin B. We have added an update on several meetings held in the past year. Dr. Tichenor's office was accredited as Park Avenue Endoscopy by the Joint Commission on Healthcare Organizations in November 2006. This involved a rigorous process and is a major recognition. He was the first allergist to achieve accreditation.

January 2, 2006 - We have added an update on the Fall 2005 American Rhinologic Society and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meetings. Included is information on the new balloon sinuplasty technique.

December 7, 2004 - We have added an update on the 50th annual American Rhinologic Society meeting and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting.

September 16, 2004 - We have added an update on the spring American Rhinologic Society meeting, as well as several updates on fungal sinusitis and pediatric sinusitis.

April 15, 2004 - We have added an update on the recent American Academy of Allergy Asthma, and Immunology meeting in San Francisco. The group from the Mayo Clinic presented a double-blind, placebo-controlled study on the use of Amphotericin B in patients with chronic sinusitis. We have also added information on irrigation.

November 17, 2003 - We have added an update on the recent American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology meeting in New Orleans, and the American Rhinologic Society Meeting in Orlando. We have also updated the information page.

August 13, 2003 - We have added information about the new asthma drug Xolair, and also about a new irrigation using Dead Sea salts.

March 25, 2003 - We have added an update on the recent American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology meeting in Denver.

November 26, 2002 - We have added an update on the recent American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology meeting in San Antonio. We have also updated the allergy section.

October 25, 2002 - U.S. News and World Report will feature a report on Chronic Sinusitis with an interview with Dr. Tichenor. The magazine will be available on the website on Saturday October 26, 2002 and will reach the newsstands on Monday October 28, 2002. We have added an update on the recent American Rhinologic Society meeting in San Diego.

August 27, 2002 - We have started to make slight revisions in the entire website to reflect overall changes in treatment and diagnosis of sinusitis.

April 22, 2002 - We have added an update on the recent American Academy of Allergy meeting in New York.

November 26, 2001-As a result of the World Trade Center tragedy, we have been delayed in updating this page. We have included an update on the recent American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology meeting in Orlando, as well as the American Rhinologic Society meeting in Denver. Dr. Tichenor is featured in the new book entitled The Sinus Cure written by Dr. Murray Grossan (inventor of the Grossan nasal irrigator tip).

April 9, 2001-We have included an update on the recent American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology meeting in New Orleans. The new combination asthma drug: Advair, which is a combination of Flovent and Serevent will be released this month. The new long acting bronchodilator, Foradil has also been released. See the asthma page for more information. We have also updated the pediatrics page and the page on when the ENT should call an allergist

November 16,2000 - We have added an update from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting.

November 10, 2000 - We have added a new section for otolaryngologists with suggestions on when to refer to an allergist. It is based on a lecture given by Dr. Tichenor at the Functional Endoscopic Surgery Course given in Jackson Mississippi on October 20-21, 2000.

October 4, 2000 - The Nose 2000 meeting took place last weekend with a large amount of new information about fungal sinusitis. Look for information about it on the update page or on the new page on fungal sinusitis. We have also updated the page on sinusitis after surgery with information about fungal sinusitis and the empty nose syndrome. The physicians page has also been updated with information about fungal sinusitis.

August 2, 2000 - The webchat previously mentioned is available at WebMD. We have added several new drugs and made some minor modifications. Look for more updates with the allergy and sinus meetings in the fall.

May 18, 2000 - Dr. Tichenor will be doing a Webchat on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 10 pm Eastern time on WebMD. You must register with WebMD, but there is no charge.

April 17, 2000 - We have added additional information about fungal sinusitis on the FAQ page. Look for RealAudio and RealVideo coming soon.

March 21, 2000 - An update from the American Academy of Allergy , Asthma and Immunology meeting in San Diego was added. Several items were added to the Treatment Regimen page. Watch for a video of Dr. Tichenor on the internet as well as an endoscopy and a radio show.

January 25, 2000 - Several updates have been added, including treatments to the Treatment Regimen page. Two new antibiotics have been approved: Tequin, and Avelox. A new steroid nasal spray called Rhinocort Acqua has been recently approved.

December 22, 1999 - Dr. Tichenor was on the 5 o'clock news today talking about the study in the New England of Medicine using the new anti-IgE drug, rhuMAb-E25, in treatment of asthma.

December 6, 1999 - There is an update on the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting. There will soon be available a new product for treatment of sinusitis called ClearEase. Look for information about it soon at Dr. Grossan's website. There has been a recall of some lots of Vanceril DS. Check with your pharmacist. Raxar has been recalled due some effects on the heart. A new Sinusitis Outcomes Questionnaire has been developed. We have received a new award from HMS Beagle.com Several new allergy sites have developed including allergybuyersclub, gazoontite, and eMD, which will feature information from Dr. Tichenor.

October 17, 1999 - Dr. Tichenor was on the 5 o'clock news today talking about fungal sinusitis. You can watch a streaming video of it for the next week on the local ABC website. Just scroll down to the section on the webpage with a link to the streaming video for the Eyewitness 5 o'clock news on Monday October 17, 1999.

September 15, 1999 - An article published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings by Ponikau, et. al. suggested that a large percentage of patients with sinusitis have allergic fungal sinusitis(AFS) caused by several different fungi. We have added a section on fungus on the FAQ page. There is already a section on the Physicians page.

July 16, 1999 - We have added a new diagram on the CT scan page (linked via the Table of Contents page)

April 26, 1999 - We have added several updates on intravenous antibiotics, which can be used in patients who have not responded to treatment. The is a brief summary on the Postsurgery page. More information is located at the Sinucare website.

April 11, 1999 - We have also added a new section on pediatric sinusitis, as well as a page on what to expect from surgery. We have been awarded the Medinex award, Medsite award and a four star award which you can see at our new index page at sinusitis.md. Look for a radio show which was broadcast on NPR, as well as a television show. The new Practice Parameter on Sinusitis has been published. There has been an association found between Singulair, Flovent and Churg-Strauss syndrome. A new antibiotic, Omnicef has been approved which can be used in treatment of sinusitis. We have added an update from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Meeting. The link to medscape was corrected - sorry, they keep changing the URL. Finally the website will be translated into Spanish soon.

December 3, 1998 - We have added a section on Treatment if surgery fails, as well as an update from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting

May 6, 1998 - We have added a new search engine which will highlight your search terms in red. It is much easier to use than the one previously. Most of the rest of the site has been updated and extensively revised.

April 8, 1998 - We have added a picture to the index page, and have also received an award from Healthyway. We have extensively revised much of the website, especially the section for doctors and the FAQ page. We have a preliminary search engine, but read the caution in the table of contents. We also added an update from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting.

August 15, 1997 - We have been busy with a number of things this summer. We have updated the Treatment Regimen page with list of the commonly used treatments. A section has been added on Churg-Strauss syndrome on the Asthma page. Additional Letters have been added. Bookmarks have been updated. A section on fungal sinusitis has been added to the Physicians Page. We have written a website for physicians which can be found on Medscape at Medscape Respiratory Care .

March 5, 1997 - A new update section on sinusitis, allergy and asthma has been added including information about the new asthma guidelines as well as information from the recent allergy meeting. A brief new section on the guidelines and some new drugs were added to the asthma and allergy sections.

February 24, 1997 - The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute today released the new asthma guidelines at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology's annual meeting in San Francisco. These guidelines updated previous guidelines published in 1991. Among the changes were a change in the classification from mild, moderate, and severe to more categories, an inclusion of the newer drugs used to treat asthma, and further emphasis on the importance of allergic management. The full text is available at the NHLBI website as a download, but be forewarned that it is almost 1 mb in size. We will be providing comments on it in the near future - watch the table of contents page.

February 5, 1997 - Letters section added. Update to asthma section on new drugs, stinging insect update, and new Bookmarks.

January 13, 1997 - The FDA announced today that they were recommending that Seldane be removed from the market due to numerous drug interactions and because a new drug, Allegra, which has the same actions as Seldane, can be substituted without those interactions. (In addition other drugs, such as Claritin can be taken without the risk of drug interactions.) It will be interesting to see if the FDA makes the same recommendations for Hismanal, which also has the same interactions. If you currently take Seldane, please consult with your doctor.
